480,000 university students in Jordan, 60% enrolled in public universities: Ministry

Amman, December 24 (Petra) The total number of students enrolled in higher education institutions in Jordan reached 480,009, according to data released by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Sixty percent of students in Jordanian universities are enrolled in public universities and colleges, while 40% attend private universities and colleges.
The data revealed that the number of international (non-Jordanian) students stood at 55,410, representing 119 countries and accounting for 11.5% of the total student population.
In terms of academic degrees, bachelor's students constituted the largest share at 82.3%, followed by associate degree students at 11%, master's students at 4.5% and higher diploma students at 1.2%. Doctoral students accounted for 1% of total enrollment.
Regarding academic staff, the number of faculty members reached 14,152, with women comprising 41%. Sixty percent of faculty members work at public universities, while 40% are employed by private universities, within a higher education system that includes 83 institutions.
The report indicated that 2,430 academic specialisations are offered across higher education institutions, including 201 newly introduced programmes.
Additionally, the Ministry currently recognises 2,971 non-Jordanian educational institutions, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance educational quality and ensure the credibility of academic outcomes.
